AN: Consider this my apology for not updating anything in so long. Super fluffy!
“Hey back off!” Liam yelled.
Niall shuffled backward from where he had been pushed to the ground.
“Maybe you should pick on someone your own size.” Liam hissed, convincing the bullies to flee. “You okay mate?”
Liam offered a hand to the traumatized blonde that sat against the bricks of the school. As Niall took it, Liam used this time to take in his face. Blue eyes, delicate features… he almost resembled Liam’s ex-girlfriend. Liam swallowed awkwardly.
“I’m Niall.” The blonde introduced before quickly glancing at the ground and rubbing his hands on his jeans.
“L-Liam.” Liam stuttered, not sure where this anxious side of him had come from.
Niall looked up for only a second, giving Liam a sheepish smile and then bending down to untangle the shoelaces of his converse which had been tied together.
Beads of sweat began forming on Liam’s forehead and he hastily wiped them off. These unexpected nerves were ruining him.
“Thanks by the way. They wouldn’t have gone away if you hadn’t come.” Niall admitted with a loud laugh.
Liam just nodded slowly, too nervous to do anything more.
“Liam? Are you gay?” Niall asked blatantly.
Liam’s eyes snapped up to meet Niall’s. He was shocked by such a personal question being asked so calmly. But the question remained. Was he?
“No.” Liam replied on instinct before adding quickly “Well, maybe. I don’t know. Why do you ask?”
Niall just laughed again.
“You were staring at my lips.” He answered with a smirk.
Well shit. Liam had been staring at his lips.
“Oh. Yeah sorry about that…” Liam trailed off, running a hand through his hair.
“Nothing to be sorry for. I take it as a compliment.” Niall assured with a wink.
Liam looked into Niall’s eyes again.
“A-are you?” Liam questioned tentatively. He’d never had ‘the gay conversation’ with a guy before.
“Yep. What did you think I was being bullied for?”
“Oh. Well I should probably go because my friend is probably waiting and I hope I’ll see you around! It was great meeting you but like I said I should probably go and… bye!” Liam rambled, reminding himself to never embarrass himself like that again.
Especially not in front of Niall.
“Yes?” Harry asked, not looking up from his maths homework.
Liam shut his English book rather loudly, catching Harry’s undivided attention.
“Lee? Are you okay?” Harry questioned, tapping his pencil against his notebook.
“Maybe. I don’t know anymore!” Liam yelled, throwing his hands up in the air in frustration.
It had been two weeks since he had last talked to Niall and Liam just couldn’t stop thinking about the damn boy.
“Whoah, Liam calm down. Start from the beginning.” Harry soothed.
“What do you do if… you think that you want something and you’ve never wanted anything like it before, but you aren’t happy without it?” I said quietly, biting my lip.
“Well I’d say that maybe it’s time to try something a little different.”
That was all the encouragement that Liam needed.
Liam pushed through all the irrelevant bodies that filled the halls, desperately searching for a fluffy, blonde head among them. He was tired of hiding any sort of feelings he had for Niall. Although Liam wasn’t too excited to label his growing feelings, he wasn’t going to hide them. Liam liked Niall and if that made him an outcast, well Liam just didn’t care anymore.
Before Liam had realized it, the hallway had cleared out and he was alone, or so he thought.
“Um, Liam shouldn’t you be in class? I got sent to look for you.”
Upon turning around, Liam grinned wide at what he saw.
There was Niall, hands stuck in the pockets of his grey skinny jeans and smiling up at him.
“Niall. Hi.” Liam breathed, gaze drifting to Niall’s lips.
“You’re doing it again you know.” Niall pointed out.
“Doing what?” I asked quietly, eyes still fixed in place.
“Staring at my-”
Niall smiled at this. Taking his hands out of his pockets, Niall ran a hand through his hair.
“Is there a reason for that or…” Niall trailed off, raising his pitch at the end to imply a question.
“I like you Niall.” Liam managed.
“I thought you did.” Niall confessed, nodding happily. “Do you want to kiss me Liam?”
Liam took a step back, once again surprised at the blatancy of the Irish lad. Niall didn’t take offense to Liam’s shock, he only raised an eyebrow teasingly, as if he knew just what was going on inside Liam’s head. Liam sighed deeply and Niall nodded, understanding exactly what Liam had meant by that sigh.
Niall moved forward and placed his delicate hands on the taller boy’s chest, stroking them down the black fabric until he reached Liam’s hips. He moved his hands gently, not wanting to rush Liam into something he wasn’t ready for.
Liam took a moment, but eventually responded and placed his own hands on top of Niall’s, moving them away. Liam guided him by the wrists and pulled Niall’s arms around his neck, letting his hands find Niall’s waist.
Liam leaned in until their mouths were inches apart. His breathing hitched slightly in his throat.
“I’m glad you saved me the other day.” Niall exhaled.
Their lips met in a hurry, both of them eager to taste each other’s mouths. Liam fisted Niall’s shirt as he gained access into Niall’s mouth and his tongue explored a place completely foreign to him.
Niall’s surprisingly experienced tongue quickly won the battle for dominance and Niall took over the kiss, scraping his teeth against Liam’s bottom lip every time he had the chance.
“Liam! Niall! Where the fuck did you go?!” a low voice called from around the corner.
Liam pulled away and both boys opened their eyes, not moving from their position in the middle of the hallway and not breaking the gaze they were sharing.
The footsteps grew in volume until they stopped abruptly.
“Oh, wow. Didn’t expect that. What are you two doing?” Harry asked from the end of the hall.
“Just what you told me to do Harry.” Liam answered, still staring into the blue eyes of the boy that was now ‘his’.
Harry coughed awkwardly, realizing the truth behind the advice he had given.
“So does that mean that you’re… gay now?”
Niall’s loving eyes changed shape into a worried expression, not sure of what Liam’s answer would be. Liam just laughed and pulled away completely to look Harry directly in the eyes.
“I don’t know.” Liam admitted. “I guess I’m just trying something a little different.”
Liam heard a snort from beside him.
“Different, huh?” Niall scoffed, crossing his arms across his chest and looking away.
Liam reached out and placed his hands on both sides of Niall’s face, turning it to face him. Liam leaned in and pecked Niall on the lips, soft and short but sweet.
“Yeah. Different. And I wouldn’t have it any other way.”
